Property Taxes Remain Due April 10

Local agencies need tax revenue to fund essential services

San Rafael, CA – Throughout Marin County, 120 local public agencies rely on property tax revenues to maintain essential public services, especially during the current COVID-19 public health crisis. Friday, April 10, remains the final day to pay the 2019-2020 second installment of property taxes without penalty.

Only the California State Legislature has the authority to provide more time for filing without penalty.

Fortunately, the recently approved federal stimulus package will provide financial assistance to both individuals and small businesses that are impacted by the novel coronavirus.

To limit exposure to COVID-19, taxpayers are advised to pay online, by phone or by mail, rather than visiting the tax office in-person:

The Marin County Tax Collector’s online and telephone payment service uses a secure internet portal, and there is no service fee when paying with an electronic check (e-check). Just like a paper check, an e-check uses the customer’s bank routing number and account number to complete the transaction.

Payments made by credit or debit card are subject to a service fee of 2.35% of the transaction, with a minimum fee of $1.49. Service fees for credit or debit card payments are not retained by County; they are paid to service provider.

Here are several options for property owners:

  • Pay online or by phone by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 10
  • Pay online using Assessor Parcel Number: org/taxbillonline
  • Pay by phone using tax bill number: 1-800-985-7277
  • Pay by mail postmarked by Friday, April 10

Please avoid in-person visits to the Tax Collector’s Office for public health reasons. Taxpayers can call the office at 415-473-6133 for assistance with online payments or for answers to other property tax questions.
