In his journey to proclaim his full support for marriage equality, President Obama ordered the U.S. Justice department to stop defending DOMA case. We were ecstatic. the President soon evolved to support same-sex marriage without reservation. This was taken on the first day when President Obama withdrew defense with the view that DOMA is unconstitutional.
What a crazy day for LGBT equality news! As word spread that President Obama regards the Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional, Lt. Dan Choi,Molly McKay, John Lewis, Melanie Nathan, Rachel Wahba, and Carole Scagnetti in the Castro had met to have lunch to send Mel off to Cape Town to attend Cape Town Pride as Keynote speaker. “We decided to meet for lunch so we could sign a flag to auction off for charity in Cape Town”.
Then when we heard the news we all started receiving press calls and soon the Press had joined us for lunch in the Castro.
Meanwhile, we heard that Senator Dianne Feinstein had also just announced her intent to repeal DOMA with The sponsorship of the Respect for Marriage Act in the Senate.
