Women’s March: Delay is Not Enough, Women Want Kavanaugh Out
Washington, DC — Women’s March Co-President, Bob Bland, released the following statement in response to news that the Senate Judiciary Committee would delay a vote on Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to allow Dr. Christine Blasey Ford to testify:
“Thank you to Christine Blasey Ford for your bravery in the face of such overwhelming odds. Today the Judiciary Committee took a step in the right direction by delaying the Kavanaugh hearings.
“Delay isn’t enough, women want Kavanaugh out of the running. Tens of millions of women have poured their hearts out during this #MeToo movement, and we will not accept anything less than the cancellation of Brett Kavanaugh. This entire nomination process is an attack on women, staged by a President with his own brutal history of abuse.
“Women are angry, and we will not stop until Kavanaugh and every one of his supporters, are out of power.”
Throughout Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, more than 200 women and allies were arrested voicing their distress over the threat he poses to America, led by Women’s March. Direct actions escalated daily, and most were arrested for disrupting the hearings themselves, and more for occupying the offices of Senators who were not doing enough to halt the process. More escalating protests organized and supported by Women’s March, Center for Popular Democracy Action, and CREDO Action are planned.
