How can I think PINK when you exclude the Lesbians?

The Pink Pages are promoting a nationwide same-sex wedding competition to be held in Chicago and sent out a Press Release, asking for support for their competition. It seems this is going to involve a lot of commercial benefit to the Magazine, the sponsors and perhaps to one lucky couple. That is all very well. There are obviously many political issues this can raise. But I will focus on the one aspect that bothered me most and it seems that it is one that dooms the competition to bias:

Dear Editor,
I wanted  to share this with you this information. Please write something about this and let your readers know about this.
Chicago, December 30, 2014:   As the publisher and owner of PINK / PINK PAGES I’m happy to introduce in 2014 the new venture issues of “Marry Me PINK©” the engagement and the wedding. This will be “Ultimate Guide to Gay Weddings and Honeymoon Destinations” and will be the first publication of its kind to hit the LGBT communities in the USA and Canada.  ……..   “

When I first started reading the presser, I thought I may be inclined to publish it, perhaps participate by donating some gifts, and then scrolling down realized that again lesbians have been marginalized and probably less likely to win an equal opportunity in a competition that in its very initial Press Statement is so clearly male-centric.

Here are the Pink Page cover pages that accompanied the press release, followed by my letter to Pink Pages.

After sending the note, I went to Pink pages website to note that they tout their awards to include one that named them amongst the top 10 best lesbian magazines. I then noticed on their website this strip of cover photos:

Why did  they not include any of these covers with their presser? And while the cover below is present on the competition page on their website, it was not included in the press release – what a disastrous omission in messaging. But then again, not surprising.  If you go to the website and read the content, it is indeed overtly a male centric publication, as are most in the LGBT media.

You be the judge – oh and before you do your judging I noticed this in the Press Release too:

“We want this event to take place at the Peninsula or Trump or one of the museums in downtown Chicago. “

REALLY!!!! And now you too are considering playing footsie with Donald Trump? See: Donald Trump holding Miss Universe in Russia will earn him Vice Czar of Homophobia Crown   and  Miss California and Donald Trump use President Obama as a shield for their bigotry and to clear and smear…

YOU Be the Judge
