Join me for a screening of God Loves Uganda in San Francisco

By Melanie Nathan, May 02, 2013.

Screen Shot 2013-05-02 at 4.44.28 PMAmerican Jewish World Service is hosting an event here in San Francisco and I am asking my readers to come and join me in supporting it. And it is free! They will be featuring the documentary film, God Loves Uganda, on Wednesday May 22nd at SFJAZZ Center! See the Invitation below. At this time there are still seats available. I hope you will join me and my friends!

Throughout the evening, we will be examining —  through film and commentary — the dangerous exportation of homophobic values that is, among other things, fueling the Anti-Homosexuality Death Penalty bill through the Ugandan Parliament.  Last year they partnered with the Frameline Film Festival on the screening of the film, Call Me Kuchu.  I reported that historic night, when the audience was so moved, that it gave a Frameline historic standing ovation that lasted six minutes. My review of that film can be found here:- http://oblogdeeoblogda.me/2012/06/20/the-castro-gives-call-me-kuchu-historic-standing-ovation/

The featured guest speaker  following the film is the Rev. Kapya Kaoma, an Anglican priest from Zambia, and a prominent cast member of God Loves Uganda.  Joining Rev. Kaoma is Gitta Zomorodi, a senior member of AJWS’ staff responsible for all grant-making in Uganda. Michael J. Adee, M.Div., Ph.D., a human rights advocate who directs the Global Faith and Justice Project through the Horizons Foundation, will be the evening’s co-host along with the San Francisco office of American Jewish World Service.

Together, with your support, this evening will be a powerful reminder that the exportation of anti-gay values are life-threatening and LGBTI human rights must be empowered and protected.
