2012-12-09_10-55-00_300Long overdue equality arrived today at Seattle City Hall. The City of Seattle celebrated the first day of Washington state’s same-sex marriage by hosting 150 weddings in City Hall. The event was attended by the Mayor of Seattle, Mayor Michael McGinn and his wife Peggy Levessque, who walked around congratulating couples.

Onlookers cheered and eyes teared at the enormity of the historic event.  Couples who had waited so many years for this moment were married at separate stations which had been decorated with magnificent floral arrangements as set up by City organizers.

Local Judges offered their services, reading ceremonies and offering vows, which, in some cases, couples had provided to them.

After each ceremony couples  and their wedding parties were taken into a large lounge where supporters provided cupcakes and gifts while volunteers played the piano, serenaded with love longs and took photographs and videos.

The most exciting and moving part of the event was when couples exited City Hall, to the thunderous roar of hundreds of well wishers below, with flashing cameras, many handing each flowers, as they descended the large outdoor stairwell into the street below. As the couples exited City Hall their names were announced to the crowd.

It was a media frenzy as TV cameras were on hand to record the historic day. More Photos see GAY U.S.A. the Movie
