Social Media Platforms Provide Mobilization tool with Poor Monitoring,

This is a dire warning to Jews globally, to exercise extreme caution as it becomes apparent that Hamas has now been involved in mobilizing an attack against Jews and Israelis in Europe.  Those calling for global Intifada are poised to orchestrate similarly in the United States of America. The mobilization weapon – social media. The moderation poor. The attacks significant such as 60 injured Jews at the hands of an Intifada inspired mob.

Hamas and antisemitic forces, are turning what once seemed like mere protests and marches into actual orchestrated attacks. The chilling call for global intifada that we have also seen on our U.S. streets, predominately New York and Chicago, and on our college campuses, has set the stage. Last night’s Amsterdam attack shows how they were able to mobilize an attack at the push of a button.  This fuel from the streets and campuses – and failed monitoring  yield a perfect set up  to orchestrate more attacks. This is a warning.

This first such example of orchestrated mobilizing for a direct attack on Jews has now occurred in Amsterdam, implicating Hamas directly and ready to ignite wherever Jews gather.  CyberWell Founder & Executive Director Tal-Or Cohen Montemayor has sounded the alarm. So far falling on deaf ears.

As first responders against antisemitism in the digital space, the online organization CyberWell has been alerting its trusted partners at major social media platforms about the gap in their moderation efforts which contributed to the horrific coordinated attack against Israeli tourists in Amsterdam earlier today since the beginning of this year.

While initial evidence and reports suggests that a combination of chat platforms like Telegram, Instagram and other social media accounts were used to target central areas of foot traffic and hotels that would be frequented by Israelis after the game, several groups, including one linked to Hamas, freely organized protests against the presence of Israeli soccer fans on Instagram and used incendiary Hamas propaganda symbols to escalate tensions, call for violence and even celebrate the targeted attacks.

This series of coordinated attacks is the rawest example of the slogan ‘Globalization of the Intifada,’ which was amplified in the Instagram stories of some of the organizing accounts. Use of Hamas symbolism included the use of the inverted red triangle, now part of Hamas’s logo, which CyberWell has been calling for platforms to better monitor and moderate for months.

In the last 24 hours the combination of the inverted red triangle and “Amsterdam” was posted over 1,000 times reaching over 8,000,000 users, across major platforms and forums, included in an example from X here.

The inverted red triangle is a Hamas propaganda symbol to identify Israeli and Jewish targets for execution and attack, that has recently been incorporated into Hama’s official logo, and is being widely used across social media, including X, to call for additional violence, including while organizing this attack today, online.

The inverted red triangle was used online to urge participation, to glorify the attack, and to urge further similar attacks in other cities across Europe and the globe. ‘Hamas is coming’ like ‘Globalize the intifada’ are not political statements. They are promises. Given Europe’s history as the bedrock of antisemitism in its darkest but not far-off moments, authorities, security officials and leaders must take the global security threats posed by this violent antisemitic movement seriously

The open use of social media during this attack is yet another clarion call to legally and effectively approach social media platforms for what they have become: tools in the hands of terror organizations and their sympathizers. This should have been the response of all Western democracies following the digital flood of Hamas’ butchery on October 7. Failing to pass clear security guidelines for the treatment of pro-terror content online will result in repeat instances of organizing real-life violence online.

‘This is what globalize the intifada looks like’: Global leaders react to Amsterdam pogrom

“In terrible historical irony, this is happening two days before the anniversary of Kristallnacht in 1938, when Nazi-sanctioned and led pogroms against Jews erupted across the German Reich.”

Violent attacks on Israelis within Amsterdam, following a Maccabi Tel Aviv game against Ajax Amsterdam, resulted in several wounded, three people missing, and a warning for Jewish and Israeli people in Amsterdam to shelter in place.

The incident, which prompted multiple emergency evacuation flights back to Israel from the Netherlands and the deployment of an IDF Search and Rescue team to Amsterdam, has drawn criticism from leaders worldwide.

US President Joe Biden condemned the attacks in a post to X/Twitter, stating, “The Antisemitic attacks on Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam are despicable and echo dark moments in history when Jews were persecuted.”

Dutch Party for Freedom founder and leader Geert Wilders posted, “We have become the Gaza of Europe. Muslims with Palestinian flags hunting down Jews. I will NOT accept that. NEVER. The authorities will be held accountable for their failure to protect the Israeli citizens. Never again.

Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism Deborah Lipstadt reacted, “Horrified by the attacks tonight in Amsterdam, which are terribly reminiscent of a classic pogrom.

“In terrible historical irony, this is happening two days before the grim anniversary of Reichspogromnacht in 1938, when Nazi-sanctioned and led pogroms against Jews erupted across the German Reich.”

Of greatest concern is how social media platforms are now the go to tool for mobilization in attacks against Jews in a given moment. The use of social media without proper monitoring allows for more brag and celebration during attacks such as when Palestinian Hamas terrorists from Gaza committed the atrocious barbaric massacre, rapes and hostage taking in Israel on October 07, 2023.
