Police Department’s Empowering Gesture Strengthens Bonds with LGBTQ+ Community

Wilton Manors, FL – On Monday, July 10th, the top brass of the Wilton Manors Police Department embarked on a special visit to the Stonewall National Museum, Archives, & Library, marking a significant step in their commitment to fostering strong relationships with the LGBTQ+ community.

The department has donated patches and other items relating to their shared goals of unity and inclusivity. This act exemplifies the spirit of collaboration between the government and the community, setting an inspiring example for others to follow.

Robert Kesten, executive director of Stonewall, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This is a perfect example of how the government and our community should work together. It is a conversation that will benefit our citizens, building relationships, not threatening our civil and human rights. Wilton’s police seem to understand this, and that is a most powerful sign that the future will continue bending towards justice.”

About the Stonewall National Museum, Archives, & Library:

The Stonewall National Museum, Archives, & Library (SNMAL) is one of the largest LGTBQ archives and libraries in the United States, turning 50 years old this year. However, we have no direct link to the Stonewall Riots in New York in 1969. When we were founded in 1972, the founder Mark Silber used the name “Stonewall” to recognize the fight for LGBTQIA+ liberation that began at the Stonewall Inn in 1969.  It was a name with meaning then and it has become nearly synonymous with gay liberation efforts since that time

SNMAL presents an ongoing 12-month schedule of exhibitions on LGBTQIA+ themes and public programs, including author presentations, films, panel discussions, and collaborative events at its museum and library in South Florida and in cities across the United States.
