Speaking Scams Involving Church, By Melanie Nathan, June 23, 2023.
Of course I packed up laughing when I received this…. how could St. Patricks Roma Catholic Church in London want a hella queer lesbian speaker like Melanie Nathan to headline and keynote their conference? Immediately suspicious but ready to play them – likely a scam – lets see where it goes if I play ball. You will see I move from their wordy invitation as to why the good Lord called for me TO BE THE ONE! To the point of me agreeing for a $5,000 fee – I chose a number I thought would make it seem like I was not suspicious. Then to their contract. Then to me fine tuning the contract. Everything so easy – so far… I mean the contract even offers to pay for me to bring a companion. And then I ask for a Zoom to see how they will navigate this. But the scammers so far think they have got me. Of course I did my research to find articles about these scams : SO EASY TO GOOGLE – here are keywords: Catholic Church – Keynote speaker – conference scam ….. here are the communications:
If course many clues along the way. The initial emails are cut and paste. So the language though not modern English and kinda Churchy seems possible. However along the way we see broken English. Also I do not believe one needs a work permit to deliver a speech in the United Kingdom.

Assuming I am taken in by this – I check to see if the links in the initiating e-mail are real. Does the Church have a website? Does the conference have a website. Indeed there it is – see screen shots! Is Fr. Alexander Sherbrooke a real man? IS the website a trap fake sit or real. The website is there! I also pursue to see if the real Fr. Sherbrooke exists and advise a warning on their website.

Anyway there is a laundry list of giveaways besides the glaring ‘Mel the QUEER’ as Keynote for St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church – but I shall not give them all away as these would be slicksters try and improve their craft.
